For centuries, farming has been done in the field. It requires hundreds of hours of manual labor and machinery and equipment. Moreover, the most critical component of agriculture is land or fields. However, only some people who want to grow their food or start a business growing food have access to land. As such, we introduce vertical farming.
Vertical farming is not just a technique; it’s an innovation. It harnesses vertical space to cultivate crops, whether in a small outdoor area or an indoor setting. This innovative approach presents a compelling alternative to traditional farming.
Vertical farming addresses the issues that traditional farming, though already tested, faces. One limitation is large-scale farmlands that require a lot of resources to grow, maintain, and harvest crops. Another limitation that vertical farming addresses is unpredictable weather conditions, which can also result in unpredictable yields.
To address this, Morning Greens Farm utilizes rotating carriers on towers that can be used in various environments.
Vertical farms operate in controlled environments, minimizing reliance on weather patterns. This allows for year-round production, increasing predictability and overall yield. Additionally, using hydroponic or aeroponic systems (growing plants without soil), vertical farms require less water – a precious resource in a world facing droughts.
Another key advantage is the reduced need for pesticides. Traditional farms often rely on chemical pest control, which can contaminate the environment and harm beneficial insects. With their controlled environments, Vertical farms are less susceptible to pests, allowing for organic or integrated pest management practices.
We have done extensive research and testing to find the best materials for our towers. To give you an overview, we started with tall machines that can grow plants indoors and outdoors. Our first few towers were made from steel. Unfortunately, these early prototypes were too heavy and costly for individuals wanting to start their vertical farms.
As we continued our research and testing, we developed a more efficient tower with rotating carriers using PVC plastic pipe. This new tower has a controlled speed to ensure the rotating parts do not wear out quickly. The LED lights can also be controlled and placed close to the growing canopy. It can also be moved upwards to only be too close to carriers once they are ready for harvest. These LED lights are low-cost and can easily be replaced when necessary.
Our goal is to develop and innovate vertical farming technologies that facilitate high, superior organic yields at lower costs in every climate and otherwise tricky growing conditions. We are here to help individuals and communities by providing equipment and technical support to bring vertical farming to more people worldwide. We also aim to help small communities that have difficulty accessing fresh produce become self-sufficient in producing fresh yields through vertical farming.
